BSOD during mode change

Postby drauthev2 » Sat Mar 15, 2008 8:45 pm

Hi!

I have the following problem with XFMC:

Sometimes, when i close a game, and XFMC will change back from game mode to entertainment, i'll get a Blue-Screen of Death. I've checked the minidumps, and the causing module is always ctaud2k.sys.

Can you help me?

Do you experience the same problem if you do this manually? Does it happen only after exiting from a certain game? Just for testing you could try disabling XFMC and manually change to entertainment mode after exiting the game and see if it still happen or not

Formerly when i manually changed between modes, there was no problem. I've checked this with winxp sp2 and x64 too, but same thing: BSOD (just sometimes, not always). And BTW, more than 1 games affected. I think, if there would be a couple of seconds between closing game and mode changing... maybe that's help. Driver version is: 2.15.0004

It might be a good idea to delay the mode change a few secs, seeing that CL does not foresee something like this can happen. I'll see if I can add this feature on the next release

Hello,

I like to use the mode changer for switching betweeen speaker and headphones by hotkey. This is possible by the X-FI Mode Changer, but sometimes I get a BSOD when I use the hotkey. I run Windows 7 Home Premium together with the Windows Media Center. I belive that the bug occurs only if there are active any recordings from SAT TV in the background. I never saw this bug If I use the Creative Mixer Panel for switching. The X-FI Mode Changer would fit to my requirements, but only if the switching will not crash by PC. The X-FI driver and the mode changer is up to date.

Greetings,
Chfux

Have you tried changing it manually through Creative Audio Console without XFMC, or at least through XFMC's menu instead of by hotkey? I just want to make sure that the BSOD is really caused by the hotkey mechanism and not the speaker/headphones change process itself. Note that some applications do not like this change performed when sound processing is already running, for example, in the middle of a game or an audio playback, and can cause all sort of unpredictable behavior. From your observation that it only happens when the SAT TV app is processing in the background, this seems more likely to be the cause

Hello,

sorry for late response, finally I could solve that by a Bios update. The error happened also without the hotkey feature.

Thanks for Help,
